UNIQUE DESIGN DISCOVERIES AT BDNY...

I had the pleasure of attending a fairly new trade show on the scene, the Boutique Design New York (BDNY). Now in its fourth year, BDNY is combined with the International Hotel, Motel & Restaurant Show (IHMRS) making it America's largest trade fair and forum focused on the hospitality industry.

This trade show presents over 325 exhibitors of furniture, lighting, wall coverings, fabric, seating, accessories, artwork, carpet and flooring, and bath and spa materials. BDNY attracts 5,000+ designers, architects, purchasing executives and developers in addition to hotel owners and operations who also attend IHMRS. This year's BDNY leveraged its growth spurt with two floors of products as well as 10 panel discussions and interactive workshops including the signature Owners' Grill Session.

This has become one of my favorite trade shows because it features both experiential and practical aspects of hospitality design with some of the most innovative products available. The resources I glean from this show provides unique products and ideas to present to my clients for residential design as well.

Here are some of my notable favorite finds:
Art on Metal by Angela Cameron Fine Art
Swivel Chair (spins 360 degrees) by Astoria Compass
Astoria Compass
Blue Coast Furniture
Bodie Swivel Chair by Grand Rapids Chair Company
Seating (4 chairs make a circular banquette) by Charter Furniture
Custom Resin Vanity by Neo Metro
Mandy Li Furniture
Custom Wall Installation by Lusive Designs
Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams
Dresser by Koket
Faucets by Vola for Hastings Tile & Bath
Real Cork Upholstery by Wolf Gordon

Until the next BDNY, happy trend spotting...

Peace and Blessings,

DESIGN TRENDS AT THE NY NOW TRADE SHOW (aka NYIGF)...

As an interior designer, its important to stay abreast of the latest trends in design and decor. One such trade show that allows me to do so is NY Now, previously know as the New York International Gift Fair (NYIGF). Drawing 35,000 attendees from all 50 states and 80+ countries, the fair is held in January and August at the Javits Center and Pier 94 in NYC. The fair hosts 2,800 exhibitors showcasing the best in home, lifestyle and gift lines.

Trends in interiors often follow fashion. Color still reigns supreme. To contrast that, I spotted a trend towards black & white - another big fashion trend this season. I also noticed quite a few vendors featured textural elements and metal finishes in their wares. Feathers are a big trend featured in every thing from lighting to accents and accessories to wallpaper.

Having run out of power on my phone twice from taking pictures, here are some of my favorites from my visit to the fair this past week:

Feather Lighting by Grace & Blake
Henri Bookcase by Julian Chicester
Twilight Wallpaper by Tempaper
Quartz Lighting by Kathryn McCoy Designs
Cartier Hearts by Natural Curiosities
Sarea Lighting by MadeGoods
Throne by Camilla House
Antique Cooper Lighting by Jatex
Granata Chair by Mr. Brown for Julian Chicester
Studded Mirror by Jamie Young
Mirrored Media Cabinet by Worlds Away
Textiles by Trina Turk
Black & White Resin Table by MadeGoods
Vintage Ice Box Armoire by Barreveld LTD
Nightstand by Chelsea Textiles
Lacquer Dining Table by Roberta Schilling
Feather Mirror and Shelves by Dransfield and Ross
Cowhide Barstool by Camilla House
Until January, happy trend spotting...

Peace and Blessings,
Tammy

HIGH POINT FALL 2012 - BEST OF THE STYLE SPOTTERS...

For those who don't know, High Point, NC is the furniture capital of the world. Twice a year in April and October, the normal population of approximately 100,000 swells about another 100k when designers, vendors and retailers head to High Point Market to display and to discover the latest trends in design.

High Point Market’s Style Spotters are home fashion trendsetters that showcase their favorite products and top trends at the Market.  The Style Spotters post and curate their favorite looks on Pinterest. See what I consider the best from what they discovered during Market, Oct. 13-18...
